Menopause and Heart Disease: There are many problems in women which they keep ignoring. Problems of blood pressure, diabetes are associated with the causes of heart weakness in women. However, after reaching menopause, some symptoms of heart attack can be ignored considering the effects of menopause. Estrogen works by increasing the levels of HDL cholesterol, also known as good cholesterol and decreasing the levels of LDL cholesterol, also known as bad cholesterol. Estrogen also prevents clot formation.
Symptoms of heart attack and menopause can be similar
After menopause, the level of estrogen hormone in the body decreases significantly. Menopause in women can happen anytime after the age of 40 but mostly it happens when women are in their 50s. When women stop having periods, it is called menopause. When a woman has a heart attack, she has pain in the neck and upper back, indigestion, dizziness, nausea and fatigue. These symptoms are sometimes ignored and the early symptoms are delayed. The symptoms women feel during heart attack and menopause can be similar. It is observed that in both the cases women may feel heart palpitations, night sweats, discomfort in the chest, fatigue, nervousness and chest pain.
Don’t Ignore These Signs
Confusion can be fatal at the time of heart attack because time is of utmost importance to save one’s life. This is the reason why women are advised to get regular checkups done to keep their heart health in check. Some of the tests that women should do after reaching the age of 40 are – Treadmill Test (TMT), Electrocardiogram (ECG), (MRI), Echocardiogram and as advised by a medical consultant. During menopause, there is a need for daily physical exercise and maintaining a healthy weight. Eating heart-healthy foods can reduce the risk of heart attack.
