Cause of cancer : Cancer is a disease that can occur in any part of the body. There can be many reasons for this, but recently, new research has revealed that the cause of cancer lies within the body itself. Scientists from Flinders University in Australia have discovered that the cause of cancer lies in changes to the DNA inside cells.
According to this research, circular RNA found in the bodies of many of us can stick to the DNA in our cells and cause changes to the DNA, leading to cancer. Let us know what this cancer-related research says…
What does research say about cancer?
According to Professor Simon Conn, who leads the research team, this is the first time that a genetic molecule found in many people has changed DNA in a way that can trigger cancer from our own cells.
If this actually happens, this research could be useful in treating cancer. To understand this research in depth, researchers compared blood samples at birth from children who later developed leukemia and those who remained healthy afterward. Children with leukemia were found to have higher levels of a particular circular RNA. This suggests that the amount of these circular RNAs in cells could play an important role in the development of cancer-causing mutations in certain genes.
Role of circular RNA in cancer
Research has shown that circular RNA binds to DNA at specific points in cells, causing DNA breaks, and although cells can normally repair DNA breaks, this repair is not often not complete. Even small errors during repair can cause mutations. When circular RNAs are involved, they can have even greater effects. If DNA from two different sites fuses incorrectly, it can lead to a genetic fusion that makes a normal cell vulnerable to cancer.

What do the researchers say?
Dr. Vanessa Conn, who is part of this study team, says that when many circular RNAs work together, they can cause DNA breaks in many places. Due to which a process called chromosomal translocation can occur, which is very dangerous. In this, the parts of the chromosomes become one. Chromosomal translocations are well known in cancer research because they often create oncogenes, genes that can turn normal cells into cancer cells. Circular RNA may play an important role in cancer ranging from leukemia to cancer.
