WORK, children, relationships or financial problems can cause daily stress.
If you’re feeling nervous, there are free things you can do to relax. Try these tips to calm your inner storm.
BREATHE: Deep breathing exercises help us calm down during moments of anxietyaccording to Dr. Sophie Mort, clinical psychologist at mental health Headspace app.
She says: “When we intentionally breathe deeper through the nose, we may notice the breath coming out of the stomach. “This is a sign that our lungs are expanding and increasing airflow.” Deep breathing activates our “rest and digest” system, which tells the body to relax.
MOVE: Staying active can help clear your thoughts and calm intense emotions.
Dr Sophie says: “Moving our bodies can decrease stress hormones and stimulates the production of endorphins, which improves our mood.
“Even a ten-minute walk can calm our minds and dispel overwhelming thoughts.”
NATURE: Being in a natural environment can help reduce our stress levels. Try to incorporate green spaces into everyday activities. For example, walking through the park to go to work.
If you can’t get out, even hearing the sounds of birds According to studies, squeaking for five minutes can provide calm. You can find sounds of “bird songs” in Youtube and listen for free.
TALK: Talking about your worries can give you a sense of relief.
Dr Sophie says: “If work is stressing you out, research suggests that venting to your colleagues has a positive impact on mental health and helps us process our emotions.”
Talking also creates a connection that helps bring us joy and a sense of belonging.
