Chained child admitted to mental hospital in Agra after video goes viral

Agra, June 3 (IANS): A 10-year-old boy, chained, was admitted to the Mental Health Hospital Institute (IMHH) of this city after a video of him went viral on social networks.

The boy’s family, belonging to Gorakhpur, had reached Agra for treatment of the boy who, according to the parents, had a tendency to harm himself and was therefore chained.

Based on the disability certificate, issued by the medical director of Sant Kabir Nagar, doctors at the Institute of Mental Health and Hospital termed it as a case of cerebral palsy, a disability caused by brain damage and not a psychiatric disorder.

However, necessary clinical investigations will be carried out as part of the treatment, they said.

On Sunday, a video went viral showing a 10-year-old boy on the sidewalk, tied with chains.

The family had arrived from Gorakhpur and claimed that they had gone to Agra Mental Hospital, now known as Institute and Mental Health Hospital (IMHH), but were asked to come after two days.
