Now that I have changed my diet and exercise I feel like a totally different person. I used to deeply dislike my body because of the way it looked; Now, apart from a stomach that has carried three children, and which I look upon with pity, I love the way I look and feel. I have strong arms and I love to wear sleeveless tops.
But more than that, having buried too many people, some of them too soon, I am very focused on living and even dying well. Part of that is doing everything you can to get fit. It’s nice to be able to love my body now, but more importantly, I know I’m giving my kids and husband a gift so they don’t have to take care of me for as long as possible. Taking care of your health and your body is not something selfish, it is a gift for your loved ones.
my training week
I have a treadmill and spin bike at home; I’ll do 30 minutes with my husband. I go to Barry’s Bootcamp twice a week and I also have a personal trainer who comes to the house. It’s important to lift weights as you get older, but you have to do it right and avoid injury.
what i eat in a day
Breakfast: Whether gluten-free porridge or eggs; I drink green juice once a day.
Lunch: Homemade soup with lots of vegetables and lentils and cheese for protein
Dinner: Fish and vegetables and rice
Appetizers: nuts and fruits
lifestyle notes
Guilty pleasure: Milka Popsicles, which are about 30 calories but taste like ice cream
Alcohol: Mostly not; if I go out with a friend, I have a vodka with slimline tonic, but very early in the evening
Caffeine: I don’t have it very often, and not within an hour of eating, as it can leach out minerals, including calcium.
To sleep: It is a challenge, but I have gotten used to waking up at 5 in the morning and getting up to have a coffee and seize the morning
