It is often difficult to know how to love and support our loved ones who are experiencing depression while also being patient and kind. We spoke to five South Africans suffering from depression and asked them if they like being supported.

“Just let me be”

“What my friends have done (and honestly, it’s been amazing) is just leave me alone,” says Fazielah, 38. “If that means letting me take a 3-hour nap in the sun by the pool, show up in my onesie.” and they get into their beds without saying a word or listening to me sob on a global call for three hours, there they are.

South Africans must be informed if we are to create a prosperous future. News24 has been keeping the country informed for 25 years and we are about to enter a new chapter of fearless journalism.
