1. Coming in contact with smokers: There are many people who do not smoke, but come in contact with smokers. If you are standing at a place where someone is smoking, knowingly or unknowingly you are also inhaling that smoke. Inhaling this smoke can increase the risk of lung cancer.
2. Air pollution: Air pollution is also one of the main causes of lung cancer in India. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.8 million people die of lung cancer every year due to air pollution. Air pollution has been linked to many health problems including lung cancer. According to a study published in The Lancet in the year 2020, in 2019, 17 lakh people died due to air pollution in India.
3. Family History: Gene mutations can increase the risk of lung cancer in family members. The risk of lung cancer is higher in those families in which there are many cases of it.
4. Radiation exposure: Radiation exposure can damage the DNA in the cells of the lungs. This can lead to mutation and lead to lung cancer. People exposed to high levels of ionizing radiation, such as those working in the nuclear industry, have a higher risk of developing lung cancer.
