I am often asked what is the best diet, or the best eating program, the best exercise program and which one is the best book to recommend to improve your health, fitness or weight loss.
The answer is that there is no best way to do this. There’s no one best book, and there’s no right way or wrong way to do it.
Here are the 5 important things you must do to regain your health
1. Keep learning about health, fitness, nutrition and weight loss from a variety of sources
The most important thing to do from the very beginning is to take action and start learning about health, apply what you learn and follow closely. We are a very diverse group of people and what works for you may not work for the next person. You have to find what works for you from a variety of sources, expand your knowledge and don’t just accept anything as best for your health. Keep reading, keep learning and keep what works for you and drop what doesn’t.
Knowledge is not power, but “Knowledge is power in action!”
Some very simple things to keep in mind are that the body runs on food and if you feed it the best quality food, whatever it is, you will generally get some great results. Maximize nutrition by eating as close to nature as possible, organic where possible and eliminating processed foods and trans fats.
2. Find a mentor.
Someone who has been there, done that and who you can model.
I realized at a fairly young age that if we can model someone who has been there and done that and got results, you can “cut to the chase” because it turns out that Had to figure out what works for your health and weight loss – what doesn’t and get results fast by doing so.
Find a mentor, a role model for the things you’re looking for. If it’s for weight loss or improving your health, find someone who follows in your footsteps and knows what you’re going through. model them. Do what they did, repeat their process, and follow up with them to ask what worked and what didn’t. You can save yourself a lot of time and effort by doing what works and discarding what doesn’t.
3. Apply the knowledge you learn about health on a daily basis
This is where the taking action part comes in. You should start applying the knowledge you’ve gained from what you’ve read or seen about health and talking to those who have been there before you. If you don’t put it into practice, you’ve become an information junkie, not someone who follows their knowledge. You should start working on the principles you have learned on a daily basis and stick to it. Without trial and error, you won’t get anywhere fast and won’t really know what works and what doesn’t.
4. Repeat steps one, two and three
Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to lose weight, improve your health, or get what you want. You must continue to learn and challenge what you read. I have been told that what I teach is wrong and I ask what were your results when you tried it? Well, they didn’t try to do it and then I ask “what right do you have to tell me that what I teach is wrong”. It may have worked for me or for many people including you, but without trying it and challenging it, you’ll never know.
Keep learning about health, keep reading, apply what you read and this new knowledge. Begin the process of filtering for yourself what will and will not work for you. Remember this is about you, not me or the other guy, but what will help you achieve your weight loss goals or your health. It may be about applying some fitness principles that seem so controversial that you think they can’t possibly work. One of my favorite sayings is “Don’t believe everything I say, but I challenge you to prove me wrong”. I want you to try it.
When I first started my journey to losing 300 pounds, I read a book and I preached the principles as if they were gospel. I was finally told to “shut up” and read some more, so I took it upon myself to learn everything I could about health and weight loss. I began to apply my new knowledge daily, found people who had used the information before and what they believed about it, what worked for their health and then found out for myself what Works.
Finally, I discovered the ultimate secret to health and weight loss.
5. Never give up.
it never ends. In the larger realm of your life, over the next 30, 40, 50 or more years, what a few days if you get off track. Go back to what you were doing, keep learning, try new things, go back to what was working, and stick with your daily fitness routine. Perhaps the most important fact about exercise or fitness is that our bodies are designed to move and we get away with it. We should do something or the other everyday to exercise our body.
never give up. Never forget the health you want and keep working towards your goal.
