Losing weight is never easy, but it’s definitely not something you want to lose sleep over. In fact, sleep may be just the thing you need to help you lose those extra pounds.
Women need at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep every day to repair and rejuvenate their bodies. Not getting enough rest can make you feel tired and irritable, but lack of sleep can lead to other health problems and may even be responsible for maintaining your weight.
When you don’t get enough sleep, your body doesn’t get a chance to regenerate properly and cortisol levels increase, which can increase appetite. Another reason you may find yourself overeating is because without the satisfaction of a good night’s sleep, the body is literally starved for satiety. However, women who eat less but rest for less than six hours may gain weight instead of losing it.
For women, not getting enough sleep is more damaging to the body than for men. Unfortunately, more often than men, women complain of trouble sleeping through the night and find themselves waking up, sometimes an hour or more after laying down to sleep. Economic and family concerns were the main reasons why women had difficulty sleeping. It appears that men, although still plagued by the same concerns, did not experience the same problems with sleep that women did.
When women do not get enough sleep, it is noticeable because sometimes it shows on the face. Due to lack of sleep, dark circles, premature wrinkles and signs of aging are clearly visible on the face of the woman. In addition, weight gain leads to bloating and swelling which is unattractive and for a woman who is concerned about her image, these signs are unacceptable, especially when the only answer is sleep.
Taking proper amount of rest is as important as daily exercise and both go hand in hand in keeping a woman healthy and strong. Exercise encourages proper blood flow and a natural balance in the body’s internal clock. This can help trigger the need for sleep and allow the body to more easily rest. Maintaining a regular schedule can also help with controlling sleep.
Diet, exercise and plenty of sleep are not only the cornerstones of an ideal weight loss program, but also the keys to a healthy and happy lifestyle leading to longevity.
