Government Shortlisted 300 Drugs for QR Code: The Drugs Regulatory Authority has prepared a list of 300 medicines and sent it to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which will have a QR code. This rule will bring transparency in the sale and pricing of medicines and their black marketing will be reduced. These medicines include pain relief, vitamin supplements, medicines for blood pressure, sugar and contraceptives.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has included big brands like Dolo, Saridon, Fabiflu, Ecosprin, Limcee, Sumo, Calpol, Corex syrup. Big brands like Unwanted 72 and Thyronorm are included. All these medicines are very popular and are given for fever, headache, viral, vitamin deficiency, cough, thyroid and contraceptive. These drugs have been selected on the basis of their year-long turnover according to market research. A list of these medicines has been sent to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare so that the necessary provisions and amendments can be made to bring them under the QR code.

According to a senior government official, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had in March sought a list of 300 drugs from the Department of Pharmaceuticals so that changes can be made in the draft notification to put QR in them and necessary changes can be made in the rules of medicines.

Let us tell you that the government is trying to implement QR in medicines since 2011 and this year the Union Health Ministry had issued a guideline that every active pharmaceutical ingredient i.e. large-scale pharmaceutical company whether it manufactures medicine in India or bar. It is necessary to have QR i.e. Quick Response Code on their label, this QR code will make tracking of those medicines easy.

However, insider of the pharmacy industry says that it will not be easy for small and medium-sized businessmen to make all these changes in packaging. This work will take a lot of hard work and money will also be spent in this. Pharma company and other lobby groups also say that there is a problem with the rules of tracking and tracing of medicines from different departments, so a single QR code system is more convenient.
