Obviously we want to lose weight as soon as possible. We want to move on with our new lives tomorrow if we can. The sooner we take a major chunk out of our weight loss routine, the closer we are to achieving the ideal physical model we’ve envisioned in our minds. There are steps you need to take to start shedding those pounds as soon as possible, but you also need to make sure you’re doing it all in the healthiest way possible. Starving yourself for a few days to shed a few kilos is not the answer. Nor is the All Tangerine Diet or the All Egg Plant Diet a panacea. Use common sense and you’re off to a good start. That said, there are still ways to start your journey to start the new you off right.
You’ve heard it many times and shook your head in disbelief, but it’s true. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Having a good, balanced breakfast starts the metabolism machine in your body. To lose weight, you need to speed up your metabolism. You can definitely do this with exercise, but your best start for all of this is a good nutritious breakfast.
Always have healthy snacks available and actually eat them. It’s one thing to have a bag of soy nuts in your drawer at work, but if you head to the break room to nab a coworker over the last donut, that’s no good. Healthy snacks between meals keep the metabolism high and also help avoid lunch or dinner overload. If you’re skipping snacks altogether, this can have two negative consequences. One, it can slow down your metabolism. Two, you may be more apt to eat more calories at lunch or dinner. Both are not compatible with your weight management program.
Oh yeah, that cold brew tastes really good, doesn’t it? Well, did you know that alcohol, even light beer, is high in calories? Plus, those brats you’re eating while you’re throwing down some cold brats will add to that calorie pack in a hurry. Research shows that alcohol is seen as a poison in the body. The liver shuts down all processing of calories until the alcohol gets rid of it. Result? What you eat while downing a few beers doesn’t burn and most likely ends up on your waistline. Beer Gut, anyone?
Portion control is still one of your best allies. You don’t need to eat your date’s fries or your kid’s burger they didn’t want. Get a sense of how much food you’ll be eating before you start. Even if you have to drive through, think before you speak in the box. Instead of super sized triple burgers, how about a kids meal? You’re still getting the sandwiches and sides you want, just in smaller sizes.
We have many opportunities to start our weight loss program off on the right foot right away. Think about some of these thoughts as you begin your path to a new life.
