Recipes for the Detox Diet and Your Oxidation Rate

Knowing your oxidation rate is important information for your health. Your oxidation rate is simply how fast you burn food. Some people burn food slowly while some people burn food fast. Knowing this important piece of information, in any case, has a huge impact on matching you with the detox diet and recipes that are right for your health.

The person who burns food rapidly is called a fast oxidizer and the person who burns food slowly is called slow oxidizer. A fast oxidizer needs more slow burning food such as a diet with more high quality good fats and oils. A slow-burning food is a good match for a fast oxidizer because that person will retain energy.

In contrast the slow oxidiser can consume a diet of more fast-burning food such as grain products, but less of the high-quality fats and oils. So there is a big difference between the two in terms of their metabolic requirements.

If your diet is not matching your oxidation rate then you are not getting the right food for the speed at which your body burns the food. This matching element to the right diet is the key to good health.

Now that you know that your oxidation rate is important, how do you find out your oxidation rate?

The key is your hair, although your hair is dead, it is a storage site for all of your macro minerals, trace minerals and toxic metals. As the hair grows these minerals and toxins accumulate in the hair over a period of 3 to 4 months. Through a hair mineral test and with the expertise of a lab that properly tests your hair, you can determine your oxidation rate. Once this important information is known, you can pinpoint your exact diet for you and only you. (see Analytical Research Laboratory)

No More Guessing! And for those who had the intuition that not all foods affect everyone equally, bravo you were right and why there are two oxidation rates. An example would be if you are a fast oxidizer compared to a lot of grains, and fruits are not a good choice due to grains and fruits burn very quickly and sustained energy may not be possible for rapid oxidation. Fast oxidizer will not stay hungry for a long time after eating. I know people are saying that I get hungry an hour after eating and the reason is wrong diet.

Now in contrast if the fast oxidizer eats slow burning food such as eggs, olive oil, butter or some nuts (for example) there will be sustained energy and the need to eat will slow down. Slow oxidizers have the opposite effect, they need and can eat fast burning food which will keep their energy levels up.

So to put it simply, there are some people who are like a car speeding down a highway that burns through fuel too fast. (fast oxidizer) and there is another car riding slowly down a side street. (slow oxidizer)

If we take the analogy a step further it is like a car that needs unleaded gas but some unleaded gas is mixed into some diesel fuel. This is the wrong fuel! It will work but not at its best and will need repairs over time.

Now that you have the concept of oxidation and diet explained, let’s talk about detox diets. The buzz word “detox diet” is often being thrown out there, but unless you know your oxidation rate, you may be eating the wrong foods or consuming the wrong foods. The detox diet should match the oxidation rate of a person.

In this article I present to you a sample meal plan for both slow and rapid oxidizers.

My Week On A Plate With A Nutritionist & Health Coach

Recipes for detox diet:

Breakfast for slow oxidizer:

Spinach omelet with 2 eggs, in 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

1 slice Ezekiel bread plain

1/4 cup blueberries

Breakfast for Fast Oxidizer:

2 eggs with spinach omelet in 3 tablespoons of olive oil or butter

2 links organic turkey sausage

1 celery stalk with almond butter

In this instance the slow oxidizer breakfast consists of very little fat and oil in their diet and they are allowed a high quality grain product as well as a small amount of fruit. The slow oxidizer will burn that food slowly and keep you energized throughout the morning.

In contrast fast oxidizers need more olive oil or butter and more fats and oils in their diet like almonds

Butter and turkey sausage. This combination of food will burn slowly to the rapid oxidizer and provide the person with sustained energy throughout the morning.

Lunch for slow oxidizer:

4 ounces roasted chicken breast, very lightly buttered and garlic

1 cup steamed carrots with 1 tsp butter and sea salt

1/2 cup brown rice

Lunch for Fast Oxidizer:

4 ounces roasted chicken thighs, made with a modest amount of butter and garlic

1 cup steamed carrots with 3 Tbsp butter and sea salt

pecans 6-8

Again in this example you can see that the slow oxidizer contains much less fat and oil than the fast oxidizer.

Both have protein and vegetables. Slow grain (brown rice) fast is high in fat and oil.

(Dark Meat Chicken, Butter and Pecans) Slow-roasted chicken breast has very little fat.

Dinner for slow oxidizer:

4 oz Flounder with a Splash of Garlic and Lemon

Swiss Chard with Cranberries, Drizzled with Olive Oil

Sweet Potato Plain

Chawal Ke Pani Ke Fayde: There are many benefits of rice flour, you will also be surprised to know

Dinner for Fast Oxidizer:

4 oz Flounder with Butter and Garlic

Swiss Chard with Almonds and Butter and Olive Oil

Sweet Potatoes with 3 Tbsp Butter

Again we see that the slow oxidizer can have flounder with lemon and the slow can have cranberries and plain sweet potatoes. The fast consists of flounder with butter which has more fat as well as the fast has more butter on sweet potatoes and fat in almonds.

These recipes are examples of the difference between the oxidation rates of slow and fast individuals. Without knowing the speed at which your body burns food, all the detox diets in the world will have little or no positive effect and may even be harmful.

For example the popular lemon detox diet is not a good choice for fast oxidizers because their rate of oxidation requires slow-burning foods. Lemon is a fruit and hence burns very fast and should be avoided in such detox diets.

Pairing your body with the right detox diet as well as supplementing your body with the right supplements and lifestyle changes is much healthier in the long run than fad diets or fad liquid berry drinks. Not only will you detox correctly and safely, your right diet will have an excellent effect on weight loss and weight gain. It’s very simple, know your oxidation rate!

I would like to quickly mention that as a rule of thumb avoid foods that have something added or something taken away. The best quality foods are those that are in their natural state, the way your great-grandmother used to eat them.
