The Sonoma Diet is made up of three phases, which they call ‘waves’. Two of these phases are quite similar to the Atkin’s diet and South Beach phases.
The first phase of the diet is called the Introduction and is similar to Phase 1 of the Atkins and South Beach diets. (Basically you have to completely eliminate sugars, processed foods and some other foods as well.)
The diet is very easy to follow – Phase 1 lasts only 10 days where you are not allowed to eat raw fruits or vegetables and eliminate certain types of fats, carbs and processed foods. We’ve tested and tried all three of these diets so it’s very easy to notice what they have in common with each other.
The introduction phase (Phase 1) of the Atkins diet is also very similar to Sonoma.
Certain foods must be reintroduced into the diet (mainly carbs) in Phase 2 of the Sonoma Diet and the same goes for the South Beach Diet. Switching up foods every 10 days makes this diet effective by boosting your metabolism to burn more fat.
In the third “wave,” the Sonoma Diet basically allows you to eat certain fat-burning foods to maintain the weight you’ve gained for the rest of your life. So by joining this diet you have to make the Sonoma diet a “lifestyle” as it allows you to indulge in liberal food and even eat whatever you like. We’ve reviewed all the foods in “Wave 3” and to be honest they are some of the tastiest foods you can think of.
The truth is that both the Atkins and South Beach diets have phases that all dieters must use to reach their desired weight. (Another similarity to the Sonoma Diet)
Key Findings on the Sonoma Diet, Atkins and South Beach:
- The general principles of these three diets are very similar (the phases are also used for similar purposes).
- The only few differences between all of these diets are the foods you’re allowed to eat—at least in our opinion anyway.
- We recommend using any of these programs because they have been proven effective over the long term: The Sonoma Diet, Atkins, or South Beach. However, we do realize that this type of diet is a bit difficult to follow because the final stages of the diet involve a permanent lifestyle change that really limits a wide variety of foods. Another disadvantage is that certain foods can deplete your energy levels.
