During the holidays, don’t let your weight ruin all the good work you’ve done all year! Holidays and fattening go hand in hand. Thanksgiving and leftover food can last a week or two before you know it, it’s after Christmas. New Year. Studies show that about 75% of a person’s annual weight gain occurs between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. How can you avoid gaining weight during the holidays?
The first way to avoid gaining weight during the holidays is to make sure you eat healthy before arriving to a party or other event, including meals. Feel free to go crazy on Thanksgiving. One a day won’t wreck your back. For other holiday gatherings, stock up on healthy foods first. Eat fruits and vegetables before going to your event. Your stomach will be full of healthy food, and you will be less likely to eat junk food.
Another way is to focus on things other than food. When attending a party, spend your time and attention on the other attendees. to mingle and socialize. Find a healthy snack and a bottle of water. Talk and listen to others, keep your mind busy with the events you attend so that food and wine don’t do all the talking for you. If they do, you will eat and drink and gain weight!
The third way is to maintain your normal relentless weight loss Strategic Individual Plan of Action (SIPA) and exercise regimen. Take a daily walk or make your daily jump rope! An occasional splurge won’t hurt, but it’s surprisingly easy to gain 10 pounds or more within 6 weeks if you stop watching what you eat or exercising. If you enjoy going to the gym or playing a sport like golf, tennis or swimming, keep at it.
The fourth way is to eat slowly. The slower you eat, the less you’ll eat when your body finally decides it’s full. The easiest way to overeat is to eat too often. Chew your food slowly and completely. Talk between bites. Drink plenty of water and eat salad with food. This will also fill your stomach. Give yourself time to enter your first meal, before adding the second meal. If you don’t do this you will eat too much!
The fifth way is to do everything in moderation. Plan ahead this year. It is easier to avoid weight gain than to lose weight. Enjoy the holiday season with your friends and family. Eating excessively is not a prerequisite for having a good time. Focus on making healthy choices with moderation. You can avoid holiday weight gain by making smart decisions and taking action. It’s all part of the process of self-regulation and continued weight loss!
