According to Urban Dictionary, bad hair refers to a kinky or extremely wavy crown. ‘Bad hair’ is a term that has been used primarily in African-American settings. However, curly or wavy doesn’t really define the term. Any hair which is difficult to manage or due to some health related issues cannot be a damaged hair. Most people (of African descent or not) will have bad hair. When you are facing an issue with your locks, it becomes difficult to manage. Below are 5 clear signs that your hair is properly cut short.
1. You have dry locks
Dry hair is generally weak and often brittle. You can tell by touching whether it is dry or not. If it’s not smooth and supple, you’re lacking moisture. The best remedy is a good conditioner. A conditioner will seal in the moisture and lock it in accordingly. To prevent dryness, be sure to moisturize or condition your hair every day. Dryness leads to dullness and breakage.
2. You have split ends
Split ends are a very common sign of damaged hair. A common reason for split ends is heat damage. Uneven hair tells you that you have split ends. In such a situation, by combing the hair, these ends will be seen breaking. When your texture starts to loosen, it may indicate heat damage caused by styling tools. To solve this problem, take a break from heat styling and treat your mane with a good conditioner. Avoid tight hairstyles and never comb wet hair.
3. You have too many complications
Tangles and knots usually indicate that your hair is not in the best condition. This can be solved by using the right combs. Avoid using cheap plastic brushes. Instead, use a brush with soft nylon bristles. Plus, well-moisturized hair won’t tangle as much.
4. You’re Shedding
Hair loss when combing or styling is a serious loss. This indicates very weak hair. There are many causes, including poor quality hair products, heat damage, certain medications, and even a health problem. If your hair starts to fall out excessively or break, seek professional help.
5. Your hair is too dull
Ideally, a nice crown looks shiny and vibrant. Dullness can be classified as a bad hairdo as it does not attract the eye. Overuse of products like gels and pomades can make you look stretched and dull. So, give your head a rest and use oils that restore the hair’s shine naturally.
Outdated hairstyles can also be detrimental to your overall look. Styles that don’t flatter your face/head shape will also contribute to bad hair. If you choose to buy a cheap wig or add poor quality hair extensions, you could end up with the wrong look.
