For a healthy heart Drinking a glass of milk daily can improve your heart health.
This is really good news for all of us and especially for my family and me as I have always loved dairy products and have never skimped on them.
I’ve only eaten and used butter so far because it usually doesn’t have any additives other than salt, whereas in many margarines or butter substitutes I really don’t know some of the listed additives and the fact that I’ve never been able to find any additives that I like the taste of.
Dairy products have long been considered bad for our health, but new studies by researchers show and claim exactly the opposite. They say that dairy products actually help protect our bodies from a variety of serious health conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke.
The study found that regularly consuming dairy products, and it doesn’t matter if it’s cheese, yogurt or milk of any kind, actually halves the chance of developing metabolic syndrome, which affects a quarter of the population in the UK.
Metabolic syndrome, also known as insulin resistance, affects the body’s metabolism by increasing cholesterol, body fat, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure.
People who suffer from this condition have almost twice the risk of coronary artery disease and are four times more likely to develop diabetes than people with metabolic syndrome. Even more worryingly, these people are fifty percent more likely to die earlier; Twenty-five years of study has revealed.
The consumption of milk has declined during the last twenty-five years, it is believed that its high saturated fat content may have an effect on cardiovascular and general health.
Growing evidence suggests this is false, as worldwide reviews on dairy products and vascular disease suggest that its benefits also include reduced rates of heart disease and stroke.
Evidence has shown that it has a very powerful effect which is quite contrary to today’s public belief that milk and dairy products are bad for your heart.
There have been over 300 publications of this study and they all point in the same direction, and the evidence shows that the effect is the same for both men and women.
The study found that people who regularly ate and drank dairy products were significantly less likely to develop the syndrome than those who drank alcohol and consumed little or no dairy.
They were 62 percent less likely to have the syndrome if they drank a pint of milk per day, and 56 percent less likely if they regularly ate other dairy foods.
Researchers have also found that milk is more effective than anything else, including water and expensive special formula sports drinks, at replenishing fluids and salts lost through sweat.
So after any kind of exertion like sports, fitness and physical exertion, a glass of milk is the best for re-hydration. Tests have shown that milk keeps the body hydrated for at least four times longer than water or a sports drink like Powerade-Cola.
Milk is naturally rich in potassium, sodium and other important salts which the body loses in large quantities through sweating.
Due to the combination of proteins, sugar and fat found in milk, it is excreted from the body much more slowly than other beverages.
Milk is really an excellent drink and very versatile, I know many people don’t really like milk, but you can make it into custard, rice pudding or semolina etc: for your daily intake.
Our youngest daughter was always against drinking a glass of milk, and still is today, but in fact she drinks more milk than the rest of the family.
She is very fond of cereals, she eats up to four bowls of cereals a day and of course it is with milk, be it summer or winter. She also likes chocolate milkshakes and fruit smoothies with a dollop of ice cream, but smoothies are often left for me to make, as she doesn’t like cleaning the blender afterwards – teen!
It’s a shame that schools don’t offer daily milk drinking, which was a big part of the school day as a youth. I believe that if this were still the case in primary schools, more children would be happy drinking milk and less likely to turn to the available fizzy drinks.
I hope you find this interesting and you will not be so worried about eating dairy products anymore. Think of all the great sauces you can make to enhance your culinary skills and know that they are actually good for you. My favorite has always been cheese sauce, but I’m equally partial to white sauce with fish or broad beans.
Cheese on toast is a staple of our daughter’s diet, so much so that cheese is one of the first things we finish in our kitchen, and now they laugh and say they can eat even more now! Pity they don’t know where Sainsbury’s is.
remember to eat good food for good health
