Ever wondered what it would be like if you could eat your favorite foods that you knew were unhealthy… and still lose weight? Well, I surprised myself. Then I saw how I can lose weight by eating my favorite food (pizza) everyday.
I have a lot of weight loss clients who have no discipline and simply cannot eat healthy for more than a few days…even if I put a gun to their head (well, not really…any The gun is not included) ).
So I have to develop out-of-the-box ways for them to lose weight. Anyway, here are the surprising results of my “Pizza a Day Weight Loss Experiment”.
Now, one of my favorite foods is Mexican Style Totino’s Frozen Pizza. Cost, 98 cents at Wal-Mart. So my plan was to eat 1 of these for 10 days.
Here’s how I did it:
Breakfast:
I ate 3 scrambled eggs with 1/2 a can of black beans…and 2 tablespoons of sour cream. ok, with me so far? I’m not eating pizza every meal. Only 2 meals… and I’m limiting myself to only 3 meals (which I usually don’t).
That’s a total of about 415 net calories. I’m not counting the carbs in the fiber. The eggs were 210 calories, the black beans were 145 net calories, and the sour cream was 60 calories.
lunch:
1/2 frozen Totino’s pizza with 1/2 can black beans and 2 Tbsp sour cream. 1/2 pizza has 360 calories, 18 grams of fat, 36 grams of carbs and 16 grams of protein. A 1/2 can of black beans has a total of 145 calories because I’m not counting the carbs in the fiber. Sour cream is again 60 calories.
So this meal was 565 calories.
dinner:
For dinner, I had the other half of pizza, another 1/2 can of black beans, and 2 tablespoons of sour cream. (Note: Can’t you tell I love black beans! They’re high in protein and fiber with no sugar carbs! I consider them a superfood!) So this meal was 565 calories.
So my total… I had about 1545 actual calories. 91 grams of protein, 40 grams of fiber, 65 grams of fat, and 142 net carbs.
rough total,
11 grams sour cream
36 gram pizza
5 grams black gram
13 grams eggs
protein total,
18 grams eggs
3 g sour cream
38 grams black beans
32 gram pizza
net carb totals,
63 grams black beans
6 g sour cream
1 gram egg
72 gram pizza
All I ate during these days was fruit for snacks… out of options… apples, grapes, bananas, blueberries and raspberries. I didn’t even bother to add in those calories. I also drank only water.
Now the shocking results…
I didn’t know what to expect because frozen pizzas definitely don’t get healthier. I also had a lot of carbs. Anyway, in 10 days, I lost a total of 3 pounds. Success! it worked.
Since then, I’ve put some of my clients on slightly modified versions of this diet and about 80% of them were able to lose weight. It gets my thumbs up if you want to lose weight…and, if you only do it for a short period of time. Heck, it’s actually cheap too. The cost is less than $2 per day. Woo hoo
So to be clear… you can eat “unhealthily” and still lose weight. I didn’t change anything in my exercise program. So losing weight had nothing to do with exercising more.
Would I recommend you to stay away from this diet forever? Definitely not. But for 7-10 days, yes, it can help you lose weight while still eating delicious, unhealthy foods. Hmm, maybe I should develop an ice cream and potato chips weight loss diet! No, just kidding!
Bonus Tip: For this type of crazy diet to work, you must choose foods that are high in protein and/or fiber to base the diet on or use high protein/fiber foods as add-ons to the diet. Do it. Along with this diet, black beans were high in fiber and protein. Pizzas were “balanced”. Anyway, I’ve actually created a few more crazy diets like this for my clients based on different foods. The results for them were similar to the “Pizza a Day Weight Loss Experiment” results.
So don’t get caught up in your thinking about how to lose weight. There are many different ways.
If I give you a few more diets like this, do you think you can try any one of them and prove or disprove them in front of you?
