If you’re like many people, you cringe at the thought of meal prep. While you know it’s something you need to do, that doesn’t mean you enjoy it! Meal prep takes time, but if you focus on prepping your vegetables just once a week, you’ll find it easier to eat a healthy, home-cooked meal every evening. Some foods, some vegetables are easy to prepare ahead of time and preserve well. There are steps you can take with your meal planning to make the task easier and then you’ll find that you spend less time preparing meals and more time enjoying your meals!
Let’s look at some meal-prep ideas…
1. One recipe, many variations. Perhaps the most time-consuming task with meal preparation is trying to figure out what to cook with in the first place. You’ll need to research recipes, figure out what will work with your weight loss diet, and then buy all the groceries you need. Time consuming stuff!
Instead, look for a recipe that offers many variations. For example, you can make a vegetable stir-fry. You can just change the vegetables you put in the stir-fry, swap out the chicken for beef as desired, and even change the sauce a bit. It is overall the same food, but with small changes that should be enough to keep you interested in continuing with your weight loss diet plan.
The more you get used to preparing the same type of food over and over again, the easier it will be for you to plan your meal prep for the week.
2. Two words: slow cooker. Slow cooking is super easy, and a cooking method everyone should try from time to time. Simply put all the ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning, turn it on, and by the time you get home from work, the meal will be ready to serve. Plus, you can make a significant-sized batch, which means you’ll be eating healthy meals several times over the course of your week.
3. Buy pre-cut vegetables. A final thought to consider is buying pre-cut vegetables. Chopping vegetables is often a task most people dislike, so make it easy on yourself. Buy them ready to go, so there is little or no prep work involved.
While you’ll pay a little more for pre-chopped vegetables, it’s money well spent.
There you have a few ideas to think about using to make food preparation easier. If you follow these tips, sticking to your weight loss diet will be easier than ever.
