I need to get this off my chest before it explodes!
Just hours ago, a kid posted a simple question about gaining weight on a bodybuilding forum and got some bad advice on the subject, commonly referred to as bulking up.
Here’s what one person said, “It takes a very long time without eating junk. If you’re willing to spend hours at the gym, you should start stuffing your face with KFC and McDonald’s, it’s too fast.”
There’s no doubt about it… If you choose to exercise and want to stay healthy, you’ll want to make the quickest decision without risking your health. Who wants to give time? (Please note the sarcasm in my voice).
As if that advice wasn’t bad enough, you’d think I’d just leave it in the past, but when I saw someone else move in with this gem, I freaked out…
“If a person is “underweight”, they should skip nothing and eat everything. McDonald’s and KFC included.”
I’m reminded of the Simpsons episode where Homer is trying to gain weight to qualify for disability to gain 300 lbs so he can do chores in his house.
The advice “Dr. Nick” gives them is:
“Instead of using bread, use PopTarts! Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon!”
Then Bart says, “You can brush your teeth with a milkshake!”
To which Dr. Nick replies, “Hey! Did you graduate from the medical college above, too?”
His final thought is, “Remember, if you’re not sure about a food, rub it on a piece of paper. If the paper comes out clear, that’s your “window” to gain weight!”
But just keep reading because it gets better. I watched in horror as the ill-advised sightings of giant candy bars were thrown out on Halloween in a wealthy neighborhood. But better still…
These guys try to explain why a dirty bulk is the best option for weight gain.
“Dirty bulk is fine for a while. It’s a fast and reasonable way to gain weight. Most people don’t have time to plan their lives solely on bodybuilding. What’s the point of clean bulking when the dirty can do the . Hell too easy? Unhealthy? Who cares? This guy will stop eating junk when he gets serious about sports. That’s when the clean bulk/bite game comes into play.”
And that’s when I realized there are a lot of lazy bodybuilders out there.
Dirty Bulking is a “Cop Out”! Stuffing your face with anything is for those who do not know how to gain healthy weight and are too lazy to learn how to gain weight.
Signs of a lazy bodybuilder:
a) Can’t wait for slow gains, will do anything and everything to reach some imaginary end point.
b) doesn’t plan meals. Will eat whatever is seen for calories. 5-6 meals a day? There is no time for that. I eat when I eat.
c) considers calories as calories. It doesn’t matter if it’s from organic chicken breast or chicken McNuggets.
d) The cupboards are empty but his gym bag is fully stocked with the latest and greatest weight gainers and supplements.
e) No time to learn the fine details of nutrition, just chow down on food until things are done and then do some other things when you think you’re fat.
f) Will do anything and everything to make this bodybuilding experience ‘easier’.
For all these reasons, if you’ve been given this advice before, want to gain weight but are confused about how to do it, or you’ll shyly admit to falling into any of the AF descriptions above. ..
